The keynote speaker, Deborah Alemu, a former undocumented student from Austin, Texas, spoke about her journey as a Danish-Ethiopian immigrant to become a national Dream leader. In Texas they are now in a fight to preserve in-state tuition for undocumented Texas residents. Texas, by the way, also gives in-state tuition to students who live close to their borders in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana and MEXICO!
Guillermo Huerta, Ana Rodriguez, Ana Hernandez, Manny Natera, and Grecia Rivas, who've all participated in PCIC events, told stories and played key roles at the conference along with 20 other talented DREAMers. Grecia announced that she has been accepted at Western New Mexico State and that she plans to attend there since "Arizona doesn't want immigrants like me."
