TPD Officers Regina Mendoza and Guadalupe Sanchez talked about the dangers of this drug, Javier Herrera and Rául Muñoz from Pima County Health Department spoke about prevention, and Dr. Alan Wolfson talked about the effects of SPICE in a psychological level. After the presentations, the attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and to share their own stories about how SPICE has become a nightmare for their families. One of the most devastating moments was when Christina Crawford, a mother who attended the presentation came up to the podium with tears in her eyes and shared how horrible SPICE is and the damage it is doing to her son. “Nobody knows how painful it is to see your child trapped by SPICE. Save your children!” she said. Christina has now recently joined the effort to stop the use of SPICE in our community.
Monsignor Raúl Trevizo, Rep. Macario Saldate, Chief of TPD Detectives Keith St. John, Deputy County Atty. Andrew L. Flagg, and Outreach Director Cosme Lopez of the United States Department of Justice attended.
The energy was so strong and the community was so engaged that a follow up meeting was scheduled for August 30th.
