PCIC celebrated 25 years of community engagement this year, joined by numerous civic and religious leaders from across Metro Tucson. It was also here that PCICEO was launched as PCIC's new 501(c)3 sister organization. We celebrated by honoring 5 of our founding and long-term leaders: the late Mayor George Miller, the Rev. Paul Buckwalter, Rev. David Wilkinson, former lead organizer Frank Pierson, and former Catholic Diocese of Tucson leader Joanne Welter. Bishop Kicanas was the Master of Ceremonies and 6 young leaders shared their stories as well. Other speakers included Congressman Grijalva, Mayor Rothschild, former State Rep. Ethan Orr and Southern Arizona Leadership Council Chair Lisa Lovallo.
Although the Bond was defeated, we developed new leaders and expanded our reach to five new institutions. Yes, JobPath still needs a building, our roads, parks and libraries still need repair, but there are even more of us engaged in the work. In the words of Pope Francis, "Challenges exist to be overcome!" * This is the kind of work for which PCICEO is made!
